The generic version of Kermit may be run on non-IBM (and on IBM-incompatible) MS-DOS machines for which you do not have a specific Kermit program. The .BOO file programs are useful for encoding binary files as printable text (.BOO) files and decoding them back into their original form, for convenient shipping over communication lines, networks, or electronic mail. New versions of Kermit are often distributed in .BOO format.
