This is a bibliography of the two book series Boston Studies in the Philosophy of Science and Boston Studies in the Philosophy and History of Science. Reidel published the volumes for the years 1963--1987, Kluwer for the years 1988--2004, and Springer for the years 2004 to date. There are 334 volume numbers in the series up to Fall 2018. A few of them were published in multiple subvolumes, so at version 1.00 of this bibliography, we include entries for 337 physical volumes.

For libraries that use US Library of Congress call numbers, and shelve series volumes together, volume NNN should be found at Q174 .B67 vol. NNN.

The Springer Web site

    https://link.springer.com/bookseries/5710

includes publication data for all the series volumes from the three publishers.

The publisher site has 29 missing volumes: 33, 40, 41, 55, 74, 85, 106, 108, 109, 164, 171, 174, 180, 183, 185, 196, 201, 202, 207, 247, 249, 271, 297, 320, 322, 328, 329, 332, and 333. It was initially unclear whether they were ever published: they are absent from both the publisher Web site, as well as from the catalog of the US Library of Congress. Few library catalogs provide volume search capability for book series, so it is difficult to find other catalog sources for those volumes.

Laborious international catalog searches later found volumes 33, 55, 74, 85, 106, 108, 109, 164, 171, 174, 180, 183, 185, 196, 201, 207, 247, 300, and 333. That reduced the list of missing volumes to eleven: 40, 41, 202, 249, 271, 297, 320, 322, 328, 329, and 332.

Library searches located rough (and often unreliable) table of contents data for all but nine of the volumes included in this bibliography. However, because of missing data at the publisher, there are numerous volumes for which we have rough table of contents data, but insufficient information (including author names and page ranges) to reconstruct reliable InCollection{...} or InProceedings{...} entries for them.

The bibliographer was able to borrow hardcover volumes 74, 85, 106, 108, 117, 185, and 250(1--4) from his campus library, scan in the front matter and tables of contents, and supply tableofcontents data for those volumes. All Book{...} and Proceedings{...} entries in this bibliography now have such data.

Volume 250, The Genesis of General Relativity, was particulary troublesome for finding accurate online data, and is a critically important contribution to our understanding of the history of the subject that was begun by Albert Einstein, Henri Poincar{\'e}, and David Hilbert. Library catalog data for series volume 250 are confused, because that volume was issued as four separate physical volumes, but, unusually, all are assigned the same ISBN. Subvolumes 1 and 2 are paged consecutively, without roman-numeral paged front matter, and the same is true of subvolumes 3 and 4. The publisher site metadata has incorrect pagination for subvolumes 3 and 4, and also lacks credits to original publication sources. All of those deficiencies have been corrected in this bibliography by consulting the four physical subvolumes. In addition, InCollection{...} entries have been created automatically for all of the chapters of those subvolumes from special software, toc-to-bibtex.awk, that avoids introducing errors that would be likely if the task were done manually.

The checksum field above contains a CRC-16 checksum as the first value, followed by the equivalent of the standard UNIX wc (word count) utility output of lines, words, and characters. This is produced by Robert Solovay's checksum utility.
