This is a nearly complete bibliography of the journal Fishery Bulletin (CODEN FSYBAY, ISSN 0090-0656 (print), 1937-4518 (electronic)), published by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Publication began with volume 1, number 1, in 1881. There are up four issues per volume, but volumes sometimes span multiple years, or have the same year as another volume, and issues are sometimes combined. Issues are irregular, and not assigned to months.

The journal has a Web site at

    https://spo.nmfs.noaa.gov/fb.htm

There is at least one missing issue at that site (v31n1), so this bibliography cannot yet claim complete coverage.

At version 1.09, the nearly complete year coverage looked like this:

The publisher data quality for this journal is poor: there are many typographical errors, author and title values are sometimes swapped, page ranges are completely absent, accents have been lost on many non--English names, capitalization of biological and geographical names is often incorrect, markup of biological names is frequently absent, author lists are sometimes reversed and ambiguously comma separated, personal names in author lists are not individually marked in HTML, and about 20 percent of the author and title strings have been destructively uppercased. The latter problem has been repaired in this bibliography by converting to the common practice of up/down title casing.

In early journal issues, only family names of some authors are given, sometimes with a professional or academic title; such embellishments have been removed in this bibliography to conform to modern citation practice.

Considerable effort has been required to repair the many problems, particularly in author order. however, some such errors likely remain, and will be repaired on notification, or when access to independent metadata for the journal becomes available.

The Digital Object Identifier (DOI) system was introduced in 2000. URL values are available for all articles, but no DOIs at all are recorded in the publisher Web metadata. DOI values are assigned to some articles, and have been recorded here when they have been found on initial article pages. From volume 111, number 1, in 2013, the first page of articles contains a DOI value.

DOI values appear to take the regular form

    https://doi.org/10.7755/FB.111.1.1

where "FB" is followed by the volume number, issue number, and article number, separated by dots. That regularity makes it possible to generate candidate DOI values, and then query the DOI agency database to obtain metadata for most articles from 2013 to date.

Data for this bibliography have been largely derived from the publisher Web sites, with additions from the BibNet Project and TeX User Group bibliography archives.

Numerous errors in the sources noted above have been corrected. Spelling has been verified with the UNIX spell and GNU ispell programs using the exception dictionary stored in the companion file with extension .sok.

BibTeX citation tags are uniformly chosen as name:year:abbrev, where name is the family name of the first author or editor, year is a 4-digit number, and abbrev is a 3-letter condensation of important title words. Citation tags were automatically generated by software developed for the BibNet Project.

In this bibliography, entries are sorted in publication order within each journal, using bibsort -byvolume.

The checksum field above contains a CRC-16 checksum as the first value, followed by the equivalent of the standard UNIX wc (word count) utility output of lines, words, and characters. This is produced by Robert Solovay's checksum utility.
