This is a COMPETE bibliography of IEEE Spectrum (CODEN IEESAM, ISSN 0018-9235 (print), 1939-9340 (electronic)) for the decade 1990--1999. The journal is published by IEEE. Publication began with volume 1, number 1, in 1964, and the journal appears monthly. There are companion files named ieeespectrumYYY0.bib covering other decades.

The journal was a Web site at

    http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/RecentIssue.jsp?punumber=6

At version 1.01, the COMPLETE year coverage looked like this:

     1990 ( 109)    1994 (  96)    1998 ( 272)
     1991 (  72)    1995 (  96)    1999 ( 272)
     1992 ( 107)    1996 ( 313)
     1993 (  96)    1997 ( 284)

     Article:       1717

     Total entries: 1717

Data for this bibliography have been collected primarily from the publisher Web site, with contributions from entries in the TeX User Group and BibNet Project bibliography archives. Data for Volume 32 number 12, December 1995 are missing from the publisher site, but metadata for the missing articles have been recovered from the Web of Science database and included in BibTeX form in this file.

Several comments on the IEEE Xplore metadata for IEEE Spectrum are required:

(1) Personal names of authors are abbreviated to initial, even though the articles generally have full names.

(2) Data quality is poor, with many spelling, punctuation, and lettercase errors.

(3) Page data include only initial and final page numbers, but articles are often interleaved, so the difference in numbers does not predict the page count. That also means that searches for missing articles via a page gap analysis are not practical.

(4) About half articles have no author name, which we record as Anonymous. That is true for the many short items, but there are published articles with proper author credits that are lost in the metadata.

(5) Attempts to recover correct author names via DOI lookup fail: it appears that DOI data were derived from the deficient metadata.

(6) The journal Web site contains online news articles that do not appear in the published journal. I have no current way to record those articles, and it is unclear whether their URLs will remain accessible in the future.

Numerous errors in the sources noted above have been corrected. Spelling has been verified with the UNIX spell and GNU ispell programs using the exception dictionary stored in the companion file with extension .sok.

BibTeX citation tags are uniformly chosen as name:year:abbrev, where name is the family name of the first author or editor, year is a 4-digit number, and abbrev is a 3-letter condensation of important title words. Citation tags were automatically generated by software developed for the BibNet Project.

In this bibliography, entries are sorted in publication order, using ``bibsort -byvolume''.

The checksum field above contains a CRC-16 checksum as the first value, followed by the equivalent of the standard UNIX wc (word count) utility output of lines, words, and characters. This is produced by Robert Solovay's checksum utility.
