This is a COMPLETE bibliography of the Journal of Cold War Studies (CODEN none, ISSN 1520-3972 (print), 1531-3298 (electronic)), jointly published by The Johns Hopkins University Press and MIT Press. Publication began with volume 1, number 1, in Winter 1999, and the journal appears in seasonal (quarterly) volumes. About 65 percent of the articles are book reviews.

The journal has Web sites at

    https://direct.mit.edu/jcws/issue

Data for this bibliography have been derived mainly from The Johns Hopkins Project Muse and the MIT Press Web sites, with contributions from bibliographies in the BibNet Project and TeX User Group bibliography archives.

In the version 1.xx releases of this file, most data came from Project Muse, but that source lacks DOI values, and in most book reviews, author/editor names. Consequently, a major merge of data from MIT Press was carried out to prepare version 2.00, where about 93 percent of the entries now have DOI values, and all have URL values. The two publishers record rather different metadata for book reviews, so in the version 2.xx series, such entries are normalized to begin with the authors or editors, followed by the book title. and the prefixing phrase Book Review is absent. Regrettably, the metadata from both sources lack publisher, ISBN, and year data for reviewed books, even though that information is present in the article PDF files.

BibTeX citation tags are uniformly chosen as name:year:abbrev, where name is the family name of the first author or editor, year is a 4-digit number, and abbrev is a 3-letter condensation of important title words. Citation tags were automatically generated by software developed for the BibNet Project.

In this bibliography, journal entries are sorted in publication order, using bibsort -byvolume.

The checksum field above contains a CRC-16 checksum as the first value, followed by the equivalent of the standard UNIX wc (word count) utility output of lines, words, and characters. This is produced by Robert Solovay's checksum utility.
