This is a COMPLETE bibliography of volumes in the Springer series Lecture Notes in Mathematics for the decade 1960--1969. Companion bibliography files with four-digit name suffixes cover other year ranges.

The publisher Web site for the book series is

    http://link.springer.com/bookseries/304

Web pages for a particular volume NNNN can often be found at

    http://www.springerlink.com/openurl.asp?genre=issue&issn=0075-8434&volume=NNNN

and library catalog entries may be found at Library of Congress call number

QA3 .L28 no. NNNN

At version 1.11, the COMPLETE year coverage looked like this:

     1964 (  37)    1967 ( 192)    1970 (   0)
     1965 (  91)    1968 ( 310)    1971 (   1)
     1966 ( 190)    1969 ( 400)

     Article:       1103
     Book:            76
     Proceedings:     42

     Total entries: 1221

The year and volume correspondences are

1964 1--4 1965 5--11 1966 12--25, 27--30 1967 26, 31--49 1968 50--79 1969 80--111, 118

Volumes 112--117 appear in later years (see lnm1970.bib).

English translations of titles are provided for all entries published in French, German, or Italian. BibTeX entries are provided for all papers and chapters within the series volumes. They treat the series like a journal, but because they contain DOI (Digital Object Identifier) and URL data for both the paper or chapter, and for the containing volume, it should be easy to locate any particular article.

Data for this bibliography have been collected from the publisher Web site, and several library catalogs, as well as from bibliographies in the BibNet Project and TeX User Group bibliography archives.

The publisher data for Lecture Notes in Mathematics are depressingly dirty, with thousands of proper nouns incorrectly downcased, German lettercasing frequently in error, and accents in French words largely lost, or incorrect. Mathematics text is seriously botched, sometimes presented as bitmaps of hand-drawn symbols, or represented by bizarre TeX command sequences, or translated to Unicode characters and sometimes mangled in the process. Web pages for many volumes, chapters and papers are absent, or at least apparently not findable using author, title, or ISBN data. Book Web pages lack the critical volume numbers, necessitating retrieval of subsidiary Web pages to find that information. There is often confusion in the publisher Web pages, and many library catalogs, between volume editors and series editors of Lecture Notes in Mathematics, so there are a few dozen instances of both editor and xxeditor fields where those assignments are uncertain. Consequently, preparation of this bibliography, and elimination of most of those kinds of errors, has taken far more work than should have been necessary. Some errors certainly remain, and future versions of this file should reduce the error rate.

The comment preambles of each of the bibliographies lnm1960.bib through lnm2010.bib contain summaries of the volumes covered, and list any that are missing.

Spelling has been verified with the UNIX spell and GNU ispell programs using the exception dictionary stored in the companion file with extension .sok.

BibTeX citation tags are uniformly chosen as name:year:abbrev, where name is the family name of the first author or editor, year is a 4-digit number, and abbrev is a 3-letter condensation of important title words. Citation tags were automatically generated by software developed for the BibNet Project.

In this bibliography, entries are sorted in publication order, using the bibsort utility options -bypages and -byseriesvolume.

The checksum field above contains a CRC-16 checksum as the first value, followed by the equivalent of the standard UNIX wc (word count) utility output of lines, words, and characters. This is produced by Robert Solovay's checksum utility.
