This is teTeX-mp-0.631, a MetaPost distribution for teTeX-0.3.4. ============================================================================ The most important changes with respect to web2c-mp for teTeX-0.3: ============================================================================ * MetaPost (mp.web) updated to version 0.631 * some minor bug fixes in change files (mp.ch, dviptomp.ch) * fixes to allow 8-bit characters in |btex...etex| blocks * mpware utilities updated, incorporating code from texk-6.95 * troff support in MetaPost somewhat improved: "mp -T" should really work now if you have a SysV-ish troff implementation (e.g. on Solaris 2.x), but it still doen't work with groff * texconfig script and kpsetool extended to support MetaPost * INDEX and Makefile added to the TEXMF/doc/metapost directory ============================================================================ I do not know MetaPost yet... ============================================================================ From the UK TUG TeX FAQ: What is MetaPost? The MetaPost system (developed by John Hobby ) implements a picture-drawing language very much like that of METAFONT except that it outputs PostScript commands instead of run-length-encoded bitmaps. MetaPost is a powerful language for producing figures for documents to be printed on PostScript printers. It provides access to all the features of PostScript and it includes facilities for integrating text and graphics. (Knuth tells us that he uses nothing else for diagrams in text that he is writing.) Much of MetaPost's source code was copied from METAFONT's sources with Knuth's permission. Additional information can be found on John Hobby's own WWW pages: http://cm.bell-labs.com/who/hobby/MetaPost.html ============================================================================ Supported platforms: ============================================================================ Binaries are available for: i486-linux Linux (ELF) Intel sparc-solaris2.4 SUN Solaris 2.4 Sparc sparc-solaris2.5 SUN Solaris 2.5 Sparc Binaries for some other platforms might be added in the future. ============================================================================ Documentation ============================================================================ Documentation for MetaPost (manuals and examples) is included in the distribution. See the file teTeX/texmf/doc/metapost/INDEX for details. ============================================================================ Getting the files + Installation ============================================================================ The teTeX-mp distribution is a contributed add-on package that's build upon the teTeX-0.3.4 distribution. To install teTeX-mp follow the instructions in INSTALL.src: if you want to compile the binaries yourself INSTALL.bin: if you want to use precompiled binaries. These files in turn refer to the original installation instructions for teTeX-0.3.4. ============================================================================ Copyright License: ============================================================================ MetaPost itself is subject to the following copyright conditions: /**************************************************************** Copyright 1990 - 1995 by AT&T Bell Laboratories.
