In this tree you'll find xindy, the fleXible INDexing sYstem. 

	You're still using MakeIndex?
	Go with the future and switch now!

By now, we have the following available:

The basic binary packages (currently only binaries are available) for the
following platforms:

    Linux ELF			i386,i486,i586
    AIX-3.2			rs6000
    HP-UX 9.x			hppa
    Solaris 2.4, 2.5, 2.5.1     sun4m/sun4u
    IRIX 5.3			mips (available soon)

You need at least one of them to run xindy. Always pick up the most recent
version. The binary versions for different platforms may have different
version numbers.

The platform-independent parts of the system can be found in the archive

	xindy-<version>.tar.gz

First unpack this archive. Afterwards unpack all packages 

        xindy-<version>.pl<X>.tar.gz

in the correct order of all <X>.

Then follow the instructions in the file INSTALL which comes with the base
distribution..
