Files which are to be contributed to the ftp.math.utah.edu archive, or
to local users on the *.math.utah.edu systems, should be placed in the
directory /incoming. To get there from any directory, please use the
command:

  cd /incoming

If you are leaving one file, it may be placed directly in this
directory. For example:
  <mode command -- ascii or binary>
  put your_file
The use of the ``mode command'' is optional, but it is highly
recommended to ensure that you are in the proper mode for transfer.

If you are leaving more than one file, please make a (possibly
compressed with gzip or compress) tar archive, or a zip or zoo archive
and send it. You are not allowed to create subdirectories in
/incoming.

The /incoming directory has no read access, so you cannot list its
contents to find out what is there, nor can you upload files from it.
This is a security measure. If a file already exists with a matching
name, you will get a "Permission denied" message, so you cannot
overwrite an existing file.

Once you have deposited something in /incoming, please send an e-mail
message with the file names to ftp-incoming at math.utah.edu so that
systems staff can take appropriate action.

This directory is monitored routinely, and all transactions in it are
logged by the IP number of the host you are connecting from (as are
any retrievals from this directory hierarchy). Please do not abuse
this service -- it is provided to assist you in propagating your files
into proper archive areas on network servers.
