			     Core Wars Deluxe v1.1
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, after several attempts to write my own version of Core Wars, with little
time and most of that spent in the "planning" stages of the program, I have
finally done it! I had recently checked back into the Core Wars seen after
a small, but much needed vacation from the net to find that there were many
things different from the last I had known it. There is now a fully dedicated
newsgroup called rec.games.corewar. There is now an ftp site which holds the
most recent of the Core Wars archives at soda.berkeley.edu. And the most
astonishing and most exciting of thing of all is that I found that there is
now a dedicated mail server for Core Wars called Koth. This mail server would
allow anybody on the net to mail in there programs and battle them up against
the Top Ten programs on Koth. If the challenger was successful enough, then
maybe it too could place itself on the Top Ten!

All of these things inspired me to get right back to work on the Core Wars
band wagon. I soon discovered that Mark Durham had posted an '88 Standard
compatible program module that could be interfaced into your own programs to
implement your own version of Core Wars. This was too good for me to pass
up! I was further inspired with the fact that there were too many Unix
versions of Core War (most of them for Curses) that were not up to the current
standard. If I was going to have my programs compete in any real competition,
then I needed a fully compatible program to accomplish this. So, I present
with you the Core Wars Deluxe program!

I will be more than happy to hear from you! Send all comments and bug reports
to me, at sadkins@bigbird.cs.ohiou.edu or sadkins@oucsace.cs.ohiou.edu. I
read the newsgroup regularly, and if your mail does not reach me, then try
posting a note to rec.games.corewar. Thanks you, and ENJOY!
