An  executable file  is one  that can be  loaded directly  by the
operating system  and executed.  Normally, an  executable file is
one  that  has both  been  _c_o_m_p_i_l_e_d, where  it  is rendered  into
machine  language, and  _l_i_n_k_e_d,  where the  compiled program  has
received  all operating  system-specific information  and library
functions.
