Introductory Information Available

It is recommended that the new user first get familiar with the UNIX operating system by reading the UNIX primer. Then for an introduction to MAXIMA, one would first read the VAXIMA primer in the file

/usr/local/docs/reports/vaxima.primer
and the hardcopy MACSYMA primer (Gail Bostic has copies for sale) which, although written for other versions of the Macsyma system, will apply to MAXIMA with just a few exceptions. There are some on-line facilities to help as well. Do a

man maxima
on monkey or any of its group of Sun Sparc stations (dragon, tiger, snake) to get more introductory information for MAXIMA. The UNIX command mhelp is used to find info on maxima commands.

man mhelp
will give you all necessary info of how to use the mhelp at the UNIX shell level.
