This is a still incomplete bibliography of publications in Historia Scientiarum (International Journal of the History of Science Society of Japan) (CODEN HISCDU, ISSN 0285-4821). Publications are mostly in English, but about five percent of the articles are in French or German (for which we supply title translations).
Publication began with number 19 in September 1980 as a continuation of the journal Japanese Studies in the History of Science (ISSN 0090-0176), published as 18 volumes from 1962 to 1979, and covered completely in another bibliography, jshs.bib, in the TeX User Group archive. That journal is a companion to the Japanese-language journal, Kagakusi Kenkyu (Journal of the History of Science, Japan), which began publishing in December 1941. Publication of series 1 terminated with number 42 in 1991. Publication of series 2 of Historia Scientiarum began with volume 1, number 1 in 1991.
Issue covers for series 2 show an alternate issue number that continues from the earlier journal. We record those values in JSHS-number fields for 1991 (number 43) to 1999 (number 66), taken from print issues of the journal available to the bibliographer.
Some issue covers include a consecutive issue number, counting from the first issue of Japanese Studies in the History of Science in 1962. Where available, such numbers are recorded in HSnumber fields in this bibliography.

Regrettably, journal metadata at those sites are incomplete and irregular, so many potential entries remain unrecorded here, and several volumes have no entries at all. There appear to be no assigned DOI values, and almost no entry has a URL.
In this bibliography, East Asian names in author fields are given in Western order (given name family name); personal names in titles are preserved in their publication order.
In the journal Web and print pages, family names are often indicated by uppercasing the name. That is a typographical embellishment that we intentionally do NOT preserve in this bibliography, because it contravenes widespread practice in English-language bibliographies and reference lists.

Numerous errors in the sources noted above have been corrected. Spelling has been verified with the UNIX spell and GNU ispell programs using the exception dictionary stored in the companion file with extension .sok.
BibTeX citation tags are uniformly chosen as name:year:abbrev, where name is the family name of the first author or editor, year is a 4-digit number, and abbrev is a 3-letter condensation of important title words. Citation tags were automatically generated by the biblabel software developed for the BibNet Project.
